Sumit Tewary Rana

Sumit Tewari Rana was born in Mymensingh. He grew up surrounded by the waters, mud, rivers, and natural landscape of Mymensingh. This environment and the lives of the people around him played an important role in shaping his perspective and nurturing his interest in storytelling. He studied at Mukul Niketan High School, Shyamoli Ideal College, and Mohammadpur Central College.

In 2015, he began his regular theatre practice by enrolling at Actors Studio, the acting school of BotTala. During his training at Actors Studio, he developed a deeper interest in theatre and later joined BotTala Theatre. Since then, he has remained actively involved with BotTala, performing in various productions while also contributing to the organization’s creative and administrative activities.

His notable stage performances with BotTala include “Khona,” “Cratcher Colonel,” “Banytherium,” and “Jatugriha.” He has also performed in “Dui Bigha Jomite.”

Sumit began his professional career in the media industry, initially working as an assistant director on various television dramas. He later worked with Desh TV, Duronto TV, and Green TV, where he also served as Chief Assistant Director. He has experience working on a variety of television dramas and TV commercials (TVCs).

Later, he developed a strong interest in documentary filmmaking. He had the opportunity to work as a Producer on the Cox’s Bazar Master Plan Project, where he became involved in documentary production. He currently works as a Freelance Documentary Maker.

Although theatre, media, and documentary filmmaking are the three major areas of his creative work, storytelling remains at the heart of his interests. He is particularly drawn to stories about people—their lives, society, and the realities of the world around us—and enjoys presenting these stories through his own creative perspective.
