BotTala is a leading theatre troupe in Dhaka that has been working across diverse forms of theatre and cultural activism since 2008. Actors’ Studio, an institute for performing arts, is a sister concern of BotTala. In 2021, Actors’ Studio launched a special programme for child actors titled Obhinoye Hatekhori (Orientation to the ABCs of Theatre).
Actors’ Studio is dedicated to nurturing thoughtful, reflective, and creative performers. Its primary mission is to introduce aspiring actors to the many artistic disciplines that converge on the stage. The programme focuses on developing technical acting skills while fostering creativity, confidence, teamwork, communication, and self-discipline.
Through a carefully balanced blend of theory and practice, students explore the philosophies and techniques of acting. Their journey culminates in the staging of a full theatrical production—an experience that allows them to discover the excitement and authenticity of live performance. Along the way, they gain not only practical acting skills but also a deeper understanding of theatre as a collaborative and living art form.
The Actors’ Studio offers two vibrant programmes:
Since its inception, Actors’ Studio has successfully completed nine editions of its adult programme. Graduates have gone on to present acclaimed theatre productions, including:
These productions have been warmly received by audiences and critics alike. Beyond learning the craft of acting, participants become part of BotTala's vibrant theatre community and take their first meaningful steps into the world of contemporary theatre.
In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, it became increasingly evident that many urban children were being deprived of meaningful social and creative experiences. Through Obhinoye Hatekhori, Actors’ Studio has connected more than 100 children from diverse backgrounds over the past five years, creating a joyful and inclusive space where they can learn, express themselves, and grow through theatre.
Young participants have successfully staged productions such as:
The programme encourages children to learn through play, music, dance, storytelling, theatre games, movement, arts and crafts, and other interactive activities. These experiences help nurture creativity, confidence, empathy, communication skills, and teamwork while supporting their overall personal development.
A dedicated five-member advisory committee oversees and guides the programme to ensure its educational and artistic quality.
Through its twin streams of creativity, Actors’ Studio inspires imagination, nurtures talent, and celebrates the transformative power of theatre. Watching young performers discover their voices and pursue their artistic journeys fills us with hope for the future. Guided by this vision, BotTala remains committed to cultivating creativity, strengthening theatre culture, and shaping a brighter, more artistic tomorrow for the next generation.
