Actors’ Studio
Bottala is a leading theater troupe in Dhaka working with diverse forms of theater and cultural activism since 2008. ‘Actors’ Studio’, an institute for performing arts, is a sister concern of Bottala. In 2021, Actors’ Studio initiated another special program for child actors titled ‘Obhinoye Hatekhori’ (Orientation on ABC of theater).
Actors’ Studio is dedicated to nurturing thoughtful and reflective performers. Its foremost pursuits is to introduce aspiring actors to the many branches of art that converge upon the stage. The program aims towards a performer’s technical skills, fostering creativity and confidence, and building essential life skills like teamwork, communication, and self-discipline.
Through a carefully woven blend of theory and practice, students explore the philosophies and techniques of acting. Their journey culminates in the staging of a complete theatrical production — an experience that offers them the thrill and truth of live performance. In this process, they not only discover the art of acting but also gain a deeper understanding of theatre as a living, collective expression.
The Actors’ Studio unfolds through two vibrant branches:
1. Actors’ Studio for Adults: So far, nine vibrant editions of the Actors’ Studio’s adult wing have been completed. After completing the course, the participants have presented some wonderful theatre productions including them Ascarya sundara ei beche thaka, Tin Bigha Jomi, Sompurno Kalponik, Jotro Pore Totro Dhogdho, and Muktodhara etc. — all of which have been warmly received and praised by audiences. This course is a pathway to step into the realm of theater culture and Bottala as well.
2. Actors’ Studio for Children: After the COVID-19 pandemic we do badly realize that the children of the city are deprived of social activities. Day by day the city is becoming less friendly to the children. During last five years ‘Obhinoye Hatekhori’ program connected around more than one hundred children of different ages and social groups through theater activities. Stage drama titled Amara Sobai Raja, Pied Piper of Hamilon, Gupi Gayin Bagh Bain, Gulliver’s Travel, Fangsang were performed by the child artists who were groomed through this program. This program aims to provide quality hours for the children. They learn through playing, singing and dancing together. Interactive sessions, theater games, physical activity, storytelling, arts and crafts making sessions etc. groom them to be a better person. A five-member advisory committee supervise the program.
Through its twin streams of creativity, Actors’ Studio sparks imagination, nurtures talent, and celebrates the transformative magic of theatre. Seeing young participants blossom and pursue their artistic journeys fills us with hope. With this dream alive, BotTala remains devoted to cultivating creativity and shaping a brighter, more artistic tomorrow for the next generation.
