The Honey Hunter
About This Event
Storyline: The Honey Hunter is Bottala’s sixth production and the troupe’s first stage play specifically for children. Structured in the traditional pala (folk play) style, it premiered on November 21, 2014. Since then, it has seen successful performances marked by the remarkable enthusiasm and curiosity of young audiences. The story follows the adventure-filled life of Shanu Mia, the young son of a honey collector from the Sundarbans. When a devastating cyclone strikes, Shanu’s family loses everything—much like the trees and wildlife of the forest that perish in the storm. Yet nature, in its own cyclical way, begins to heal and rebuild itself. Driven by a desperate hunger for honey, the inexperienced Shanu ventures into the forest to harvest it prematurely, unwittingly becoming a threat to the delicate balance of life and the environment. The guardian spirit of the forest, Dakshin Rai—also known as the Royal Bengal Tiger—seeks vengeance against the human aggression embodied by Shanu.
