About the play: Set in the village of Lotiputi—a place that mirrors the essence of any typical Bangladeshi village—Jojongondha Maya centers its spiritual and social life around the shrine of the 'Kumirpir' (the Crocodile Saint). In this play, Kumirpir’s spirituality is deeply rooted in the material world; he speaks of the peasants' right to food and teaches them to reclaim their dignity. For the "crime" of opening people’s eyes to the truth, the Pir is killed, but his death only solidifies him as a pillar of courage for the community. This latent revolution is carried forward by his disciples, with Kurumoni leading the struggle to protect the land for all living beings. Unnamed revolutionaries like Kurumoni bridge the gap between generations, echoing the spirits of historical icons like Ila Mitra or Pritilata Waddedar.
